Maja Palm

Maja graduated from Stockholm University of the Arts in 2023 with a
bachelor’s degree in script writing. Her two graduation films
demonstrated her range of style – tackling heavier subjects as in the dramathriller Trap to
depicting a coming-of-age story set in a teenage-subculture with 2008 Loves You. The film won Göteborg Film Festival Dragon Award

Motivation of the jury:
The Draken Film Award goes to a unique film that grabs hold of us from the very first frame and continues to pulse within us long after the techno-thumping soundtrack has faded away. Under confident directorial guidance, all components of the film medium come together to form an impressive whole, delivering an authentic, vibrant, and gritty portrayal of the rollercoaster ride of youth. A poignant depiction of being young, lost, and misunderstood that doesn’t shy away from pausing in the fragile moments.

In addition to scriptwriting for her graduation films Maja developed her own graduation
project, Göra slut, an anti-romantic comedy, which is currently in development.

Together with producer Anna Furenmo she has developed the coming-of-age-series Konsten att gå sönder and is
also working on several feature film projects. One of these is her own original idea Strax – a suspense
thriller taking place in a fastfood restaurant, also currently in
development.

With an additional bachelor’s degree in film studies Maja has a solid understanding of film as
a medium. Having always been an avid reader, she finds a great deal of inspiration in
literature and is confident in her language and storytelling abilities. She wants to tell stories
that connect to the audience’s humanity, always handling her characters with empathy while
at the same time telling stories about complex people who make mistakes.

Maja is a team player who loves to collaborate with others, either in developing someone
else’s idea, adapting an existing concept or working in a writers room. When it comes to
developing original ideas she is always thinking about her next project – focusing first on
coming up with a story that excites her, second on finding the right format. She is interested
in multiple genres but is especially drawn to thrillers, comedies and stories directed towards
children.
