Theodor Österberg

Theodor is currently developing two series for major production companies as well as his own original script for dramedy/biopic Holy Roller which is part of Nordic Script Lab 2023/2024.a biopic/dramedy about a Roma preacher trying to combine christianity with rock’n’roll in the 1960s.
Theodor is also episode writer on season 2 of Strandhotellet/ Viaplay. He wrote Guldbagge nominated and multiple award winning short Dance My Doll (2021) which tackles the complex subject of European migration politics in a satirical manner. It is an example of how Theodor mixes heavy themes with humor in surprising ways, without letting the jokes distract from the drama. Similarly, he portrayed the Swedish arms trade in his graduation project Försvar/A Swedish Defence from the screenwriting program at the prestigious Stockholm University of the Arts, and was shortlisted for a student BAFTA.

Considered a Swiss army knife in the writer’s room, Theodor is appreciated because of his adaptability, his rock solid understanding of story structure, and his quirky sense of humor. He moves effortlessly between genres. Regardless if it’s a high-concept sci fi epic, a family drama, comedy horror, or even a musical – Theodor makes it work by always focusing on the characters.

The words ”nerd” and ”multitasker” get thrown around a lot these days, but they probably apply to Theodor who got his start as a kid drawing comics and recording sketch comedy. He worked as a guide in the Swedish History Museum for many years and can teach you how to cook viking bread over an open fire, while retelling episodes of Doctor Who from memory. He also freestyle raps under the hip hop alias ”Skill Barsgård”. However, he is no mere dreamer with his head in the clouds. He delivers. He gets it done.

Theodor aspires to be the smartest low brow writer in Sweden (alternatively the trashiest arthouse writer). He is currently developing two exciting TV projects with different production companies.
